Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

The IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals, including people who generally make $64,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers. Through a partnership with the Westminster Tax Clinic, VITA can be offered at any Extension office or statewide campus.

Each Extension office can operate as a drop-off site that offers 30 minute intake appointments during which the client's forms are completed, scanned and uploaded to a secure portal. During the week, a Westminster tax preparer will complete the client's tax return virtually. A week later, the client will have a virtual call with a tax preparer to review the completed return. This service can help county residents claim refundable tax credits and save hundreds of dollars on tax preparation fees
