WATER RECREATION IN UTAH
Utah’s backyard supports a plethora of outdoor recreation activities, which many of
these activities involve water.
Below we define water by how it’s used:
CONTACT RECREATION
Includes recreational activities involving a significant risk of ingestion of water - such as swimming, wading, diving, and waterskiing.
NON-CONTACT RECREATION
Aquatic recreational pursuits not involving a significant risk of water ingestion, including fishing, boating, and shoreline activity.
COLD WATER FISHERIES
Temperatures should typically be below 20° C (60° F) and down to around 10° C (50° F).
This includes many of Utah’s native Trout.
WARM WATER FISHERIES
Including many game fish, such as large and smallmouth bass, striped bass, crappie, bluegill, and walleye.
Temperatures should be around 27° to 32° Celsius (80° to 90° F).
