Poultry Program

Utah County 4-H

Utah County 4-H Poultry Program provides project areas in vast ranges for 4-H Youth located in both urban and rural settings. This program is for youth ages 5 (Kindergarten) through 18 years of age. Utah 4-H provides poultry opportunities with pet poultry including chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, doves, game birds, pigeons, and guinea fowl. These programs are for youth who own/have access to poultry, and want to learn about the science of poultry, how to care for them, poultry management, and showmanship skills. Poultry projects motivate youth to explore, learn responsibility and enjoy challenges.

Backyard chicken projects often involve Layers. These are multiple breeds of chickens that produce farm fresh eggs.

The 4-H Layer Program provides youth with the opportunity to expand their knowledge of their current poultry production or start a new flock.

Youth may purchase chickens from any source.

Broiler chickens are those designated for meat production.

The 4-H Broiler Program provides youth with the opportunity to order broilers through Dunlap Hatchery (or your own producer) raise, and process them at your own home. The process from chick to processed bird takes an estimated 10 weeks.
