Designing 4-H Apparel

For an efficient design process, the following guidelines are requirements when designing and ordering apparel with the USU logo and using USU Extension funds.

1

Using the USU Extension 4-H logo

The USU Extension 4-H logo must appear on apparel that is paid for with USU funds. The logo must be distinct and separate from your design. Use of this logo requires the proper area of isolation as well as meeting USU's minimum sizing requirements for logos and trademarks. The images below are options of how the logo can be used.

Option 1 – Back of shirt or jacket

2

Include the year

If you are creating your own original design, the current year must be incorporated somewhere in the design. The year can be displayed as text or incorporated into the design in another creative way, as long as it is clearly part of the overall design.
Below are examples of previously approved designs.

This requirement does not apply when you are only adding information to apparel. For example, if you are simply adding a name, officer position, logo, or similar text/information, you do not need to add the year.

3

Cannot use the color red

This is a Utah State University institutional requirement.

To help clearly distinguish Utah State University (USU) from the University of Utah (UofU), USU’s University Marketing & Communications (UMAC) team will not approve: 1) designs that use the color red, or 2) red apparel. This restriction also applies to colors that are visually similar to red, such as red-orange, reddish-orange, and other red-like colors. Please keep this requirement in mind when selecting colors for designs and apparel.

All other colors are allowed to be used.

4

Submit the design to UMAC for approval

When the design has been finalized, send a copy to your 4-H Coordinator that they can submit to UMAC for approval. UMAC will let you know if any improvements need to be made. Requests are typically responded to within 48 hours.

ALL clothing and swag (for internal or external use) and all other promotional products or merchandise being paid for with university funds must be submitted to UMAC’s Branded Goods Artwork Review Form and approved prior to production.

5

Verify that the print shop you're ordering from is a licensed vendor

Per USU policy 510, all items bearing the university trademarks must be produced by a licensed vendor. See the following lists to find a licensed vendor; do not use a vendor found in Cancelled Licensees.
