Become a 4-H Member

4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults. 4-H is the nation’s largest Positive Youth Development Program. 4-H focuses on learning by doing. Through our unique partnership with USU Extension we are able to provide opportunities for youth throughout Utah! ​4-H offers a wide variety of programs, projects, contests and events from livestock to sewing, and leadership to robotics!

1. Find a club or create one

You can join an existing club or start one! Starting your own 4-H club is easier than ever with Discover 4-H Club Curriculum Guides. Pick something that interests you, find an adult willing to be your volunteer leader and start learning. Contact us at 385-268-6531 for more information. 

2. Enroll in Utah 4-H

4-H members are required to enroll in Utah 4-H through Zsuite. Contact office at 385-268-6531 if assistance is needed. 

3. Have fun & get involved

Each club provides leadership opportunities for members. As you complete projects in your chosen area you will also learn how to be an effective leader! As a 4-H member you can participate in events that let you showcase what you have learned or created, like the Utah County Fair. Also, watch for events and camps offered by the County, Region and State 4-H Office. 

To compete at contests, youth must be part of a chartered club. This applies to both county and state level. 

Chartered Club Requirements 4-H at Home Qualification Requirements
  • Be an active member in a chartered club
  • To compete in a state contest, youth must compete in a contest at county level
  • Be an active member in a 4-H at Home Club
  • Have attended at least 3 state or county workshops/trainings or competed in a county contest to attend an overnight event. 

Utah 4-H Age Divisions are based on a child’s school grade, as of September 1. 

  • Cloverbud 4-H Members | Kindergarten through 2nd Grade
  • Junior 4-H Members |  3rd* through 5th Grade
  • Intermediate 4-H Members | 6th through 8th Grade
  • Senior 4-H Members | 9th through 12th Grade 

Youth who are homeschooled will follow the Utah State Board of Education criteria for grade placement based on age and should enroll in the grade based upon the USBE criteria for their age as of September 1. 

  • Cloverbud 4-H Members | Ages 5 through 7
  • Junior 4-H Members Ages | 8* through 10 
  • Intermediate 4-H Members | Ages 11 through 13
  • Senior 4-H Members | Ages 14 through 18

*Youth MUST be age 8 AND in 3rd grade to participate in large animal, shooting sports, and ATV projects and activities. Youth turning 8 AND in 3rd grade may participate after their 8th birthday during the 4-H year. Please note that youth must turn 8 by the ownership deadline (100 days prior to the show for cattle, 60 days prior to the show for sheep, goats, and hogs) to participate in the horse and livestock program.

Project areas are a great way to not only develop interests but also to gain new life skills.

4-H has more than 150 projects from which to choose. Some of these include:

4-H volunteers are the key to a successful 4-H program. They have the unique ability to provide life changing opportunities for youth. 4-H offers an endless amount of opportunities for volunteers.
