Welcome, Affiliates!

Welcome to the Rural Online Initiative!

The affiliate program encompasses universities from across the United States. We are happy you decided to join us in expanding remote work and helping to develop economies in rural America.

As an affiliate of the Rural Online Initiative, you are connected to a widely established network of remote workers and resources across the country. Thank you for joining us!

This webpage contains all the information you need to know about being an affiliate. Please reference it when you have questions. If you have further questions, please contact Annette Mutenyo, the affiliate program coordinator.

Each affiliate chapter in the ROI program will have certain criteria that must be met before joining the program. There must be a Program Manager, the main point of contact, that is willing to take on the coordination role with USU Extension. Each Program Coordinator must take the Professional course and go through the affiliate training videos before starting as a PC. Your chapter must have a website with the ROI course dates, your states pricing, a payment plan, and your contact information. Each PC is responsible for grading their student’s assignments and meeting with them for their Career Path Meeting.

You will develop a webpage on your university website that contains the information about your partnership with the Rural Online Initative.

When creating your webpage for the Certified Remote Work Professional certificate course, there are a few guidelines we encourage you to follow. Included in this document will be all the required materials.

  1. Course name
    • The proper name of the course should be displayed (Certified Remote Work Professional certificate course)
  2. Your university logo
  3. ROI logo
    • You can find and download the ROI logos here
  4. Course requirements
    • These are our standard course requirements. You may wish to add to this list, depending on your policies.
      • You will need access to a laptop or desktop computer with a working web camera, speakers and microphone (a headset with microphone is also acceptable). Tablets and smartphones are not sufficient to be successful in this course. Chromebooks are not supported. You must also have broadband internet (DSL, Cable, Fiber, etc.) with minimum speed of 8Mbps download and 2Mbps upload to participate in the video workshops. You can check your Internet speed using http://www.speedtest.net
  5. Learning objectives
  6. Price
    • Our program price is $149 per student. Depending on your state’s funding, you can charge the baseline $149 or go higher/lower.
  7. Target audience
  8. Course dates
  9. Your application with link to our application embedded

We recommend NOT linking our website on your webpage. This helps prevent students from signing up directly with us and skipping your state’s application altogether.

If you need some inspiration, here are a few examples from current affiliate websites.

Part of becoming an affiliate is choosing Program Coordinators in your state that will be in charge of the recruiting, grading, interveiws and all other contact with your students. Each of your program coodinators will need to go through the same training. Training videos are linked in the affiliate wiki.

Tracking data for programs is highly important in Extension! We provide dashboards specific to your State's involvment in the Remote Online Initative program that automatically update. If you do not have the link to your dashboard or have any questions, reach out to Annette and she can point you in the right direction.
