Biography

Dr. Wilkins is a Post-doctoral Research Associate working on: (1) quantifying the CO2 emissions generated by national park visitors; and (2) quantifying the economic impact of dark sky recreation throughout Utah. During her summers on trail crew in the Rocky Mountains, Dr. Wilkins became interested in studying human dimensions of natural resources, specifically parks and outdoor recreation. She then ventured out east and got her M.S. from the University of Maine in Forest Resources. In Maine, Emily's research focused on the economic impact of weather and climate to tourism. She then headed west to work as a quantitative social scientist for USGS in Colorado. Emily's dissertation focused on using social media to assess the impact of weather and climate on visitation to outdoor recreation settings. Emily is excited to be in Utah and enjoys anything involving stats, modeling, or surveys.
