Disaster Preparedness

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure

Wildfire Prevention

It is critical to always have a livestock evacuation plan when in danger of wildfires. Have an evacuation kit prepared which will have enough food, water and supplies for 7 to 10 days.

If evacuation of livestock is not possible, open gates and cut fences or herd animals to a low risk area.

Alert officials and neighbors to be aware of livestock.

Maintain an updated and accurate record of all of your livestock.

Flooding

Flooding drives livestock to seek shelter. It is important to allow livestock to have a path to find a safe high ground. Ensure you know the location of the livestock to be able to feed and water them.

Earthquakes

The key to earthquake prevention is up to date proper maintenance. Ensuring proper maintenance, to electrical, structures and water lines can be the best insurance when dealing with situations like earthquakes. If barns are unstable, release livestock out into open areas where there are less potential falling hazards.

Agriculture Planning

A farm disaster kit is a great tool to have to be prepared for all types of emergencies. Kits should include but not be limited to feed and water for 7-10 days, first aid kit, livestock supplies, disaster equipment.

It is important to have a plan of where and how to relocate livestock during disasters.
