What is the Confidence Project?
Guided by a shared mission to increase leadership opportunities for girls and young women and recognizing confidence as a key component of leadership ability, a multidisciplinary team of Utah State University Extension faculty came together to develop a confidence building curriculum for girls. Utilizing evidence-based strategies from the latest research this curriculum was designed to be delivered in a variety of settings such as a weekly club meeting, in afterschool programs, or in multi-day camps. This curriculum was later adapted to include both boys and girls.

Young people from diverse backgrounds across the state of Utah participated in a three-day camp structured around a newly developed confidence-building curriculum. Cultivating healthy coping mechanisms that foster the growth of confidence and Healthy friendships are an important part of building confidence in youth. Youth especially benefit from friendships as these friendships help them to feel a sense of acceptance and value by people other than their families. When we talk about confidence, we are referring to your level of certainty or how much you trust your own abilities to handle the situations that come up in life. The word confidence is often used interchangeably with self-esteem.
