This tree is native to Japan and is mainly used as an ornamental tree. The flowers, which give the Star Magnolia its name, bloom in the early spring and are intricately made up of clusters of long, white petals. It best flowers in full sun.

Reddish green fruit that falls before it is ripe in the fall.

Advantages

Moderately tolerant of many soil conditions. Good for compact locations.

Disadvantages

The early blooming flowers are at risk for spring freezing.
