Urban Farm Demonstration Garden

The Urban Farm Demonstration Garden demonstrates how to maximize space to yield the maximum amount of vegetables and fruits in a small farm or garden. Intensive planting strategies, vertical trellising, and season extension techniques are employed in this 1/8-acre garden.

In addition to edible crops, a cut flower garden showcases how to plant and harvest a high-value crop that can be sold to florists or at a farmers’ market. Sustainable gardening is also a focus and are incorporated with composting techniques and two types of irrigation that will help you conserve water. Irrigation design is centered around maintaining flexibility in the garden to allow for changes to spacing and crop rotation annually.  

A small apiary is located near the Urban Farm Demonstration Garden and is used to teach local beekeepers how to properly maintain their hives. Beginning beekeeping classes are taught each year in the late winter. The Thriving Hive advanced beekeeping series is taught every 2 to 3 years, depending on demand. Visitors are welcome to walk through and taste different fruits and vegetables in the garden, however, we as that you do not harvest food to take home. Food from the garden is donated to various organizations in Davis County to help feed those who are food insecure and in need of assistance.
