Shadblow Serviceberry

Amelanchier canadensis

This small tree is native to eastern North America and is ideal for any landscape that has full sun and adequate water. These trees have a unique white flower in the spring and gorgeous orange leaves in the fall. The berries produced on the tree are excellent in jams and preserves.

Leaf

Simple, elliptical shaped green leaves. They are serrated on the edges and range from 1 to 3”.

Fruit

Small and berry like in a range of color including black, green, purple and red.

Flower

White star shaped flowers that bloom in the spring. About 1-3” in size.

Advantages

Adapts to different soil conditions.. No serious pest problems and is moderately deer resistant.

Disadvantages

Suckering is common at the bottom of the tree.
