Satellite Bosnian Pine

Pinus heldreichii or Leucodermis 'Satelit'

This pine is a columnar variety with dark green needles. Its bark resembles Austrian pines (pinus nigra). It has cones that are purple when new and mature to be yellow-brown. It does well in chalky and dry soils, is salt resistant and resistant to diplodia blight.

Leaf

Needles, clumps of 2, 2-4" long, dark green. Stomatal lines on all surfaces.

Cones, purple as new growth, brown at maturity.

Disadvantages

Intolerant of shade.
