Native to southern Russia, this beautiful deciduous tree gives year around interest. In spring it is covered in stunning white blossoms which turn into
beautiful red pomes from early to late fall and are a favorite of birds. It has a stunning habit of growth which features almost oriental horizontally-tiered
branches of finely textured leaves.

Leaf

The serrated oval
leaves have a fern-like
appearance and do
not develop any
appreciable fall color.

Fruit

Fruit 1.5 cm long, at
first bright red, then
dark red or purple-
black with light dots,
fleshy.

Flower

Stunning clusters of
white flowers held
atop the branches
from April to May..

Advantages

It has a low canopy
and is suitable for
planting under power
lines. It is highly
tolerant of urban
pollution.

Disadvantages

1 cm long thorns.
Dropping fruit can be
messy.
