Red Cap European Spindle Tree/Bush

Euonymus europaeus 'Red Cap'

This plant is known for its showy fall leaf color and seed pods. Both turn a bright, glowing red that is eye-catching. During the summer the leaves are dull green. In the summer flowers bloom, they are a greenish color, but not showy. This is a fast growing bush that is potentially invasive in some areas, but does well in Utah.

Leaf

Opposite, simple, ovate, an serrated. Dull, dark green color, bright red in the fall.

Fruit

Showy, scarlet red seed pods.

Light green color, but not showy.

Adapts to many different soil types, prefers alkaline soils.

Occasional disease This plant is potentially invasive, should not be planted in midwestern states.
