Prairifire Crabapple

The Prairifire Crabapple is one of the favorites of the crabapple family. It has beautiful magenta blossoms in the spring that stay vibrant until they die off. The foliage is maroon when it is new, and becomes a dark green when it matures. The fruit is dark red and persists into the winter. Does well in various soil types, has good diseases resistance, and is drought tolerant.

Leaf

Alternate, simple, red-maroon when new, dark green when mature.

Fruit

Dark red, 3/8” in diameter, persistent.

Flower

Bright magenta, bloom color does not fade.

Advantages

Adapts to many different soil types, drought tolerant, good resistance to diseases.

Disadvantages

Messy fruit, scab.
