Possumhaw Viburnum

This viburnum is similar to other viburnums with its white fragrant flowers, leaves, and adaptability. Unlike other viburnums whose fruit is quickly eaten by birds, the fruit of this variety is persistent and adds winter interest. This variety grows to be about 15'x15'.

Leaf

Opposite, simple, oblong, and serrated. Glossy and dark green in the summer and red in the fall.

Fruit

Pitted fruit, black when mature. Ripen in the fall, persistent through the winter.

Flower

Cream colored. Fragrant,  blooms from May to June.

Advantages

Adapts to many different soil types. Drought and heat tolerant when established. Attracts pollinators.

Disadvantages

Messy fruit, some pruning required.
