Part of the Rosaceae family, this small deciduous tree has an erect or spreading habit, with a low canopy. It is truly striking in spring when covered with double rose flowers. It does well in most soil types and tolerates highly acidic to highly alkaline soil pH. It is adaptable to moist or dry soil conditions.

Leaf
Small deeply lobed, medium green leaves No real fall color.
Fruit
Prolific, deep red pomes, medium (0.5” to 1.5”), fruiting in fall or winter. Loved by wildlife.
Flower
Brilliant spring flowers. Double petaled blossoms, scarlet to rose in color. Attracts bees.
Advantages
Beautiful spring blossoms make this the showiest of the Hawthorns in spring.
Disadvantages
Thorns. Wet Fruit litter. Susceptible to hawthorn leaf spot or blight. Very susceptible to fire blight.
