Pinus heldreichii 'Mint Truffle'

This type of pine has a pyramidal structure with branches that sweep upwards. Its foliage is very dense from the bottom to the top. Its needles are dark green year round, poky, and are 2-4” long. Its cones are purple when young which adds a nice contrast. This is a nice accent piece in the yard.

Leaf

Needles, 2-4” long, sharp and stiff, dark green, 2 per fascicle.

Fruit

Cones, purple when young, brown when mature, the seed is edible.

Flower

Not showy.

Advantages

Once established can be drought tolerant and adapts to high pH soils, can tolerate various soil types.

Disadvantages

Intolerant of shade.
