Japanese Flowering Crabapple

This crabapple is a favorite of horticulturists for its hardiness, beauty, and shape. Other crabapples are often compared to this one. It has pink buds that bloom into white flowers with yellow and red fruit. Its foliage is dark green. Its habit is wider than it is tall.

Leaf

Alternate, simple, serrate, broad-rounded, dense foliage, dark green leaves.

Fruit

Yellow and red, usually not persistent, 1-1 1/2”.

Flower

Single, deep pink fading to white, fragrant.

Advantages

Adapts to many different soil types, hardy, very resistant to Japanese beetle.

Disadvantages

Slightly susceptible to scab and powdery mildew, messy fruit.
