Heritage River Birch

This river birch can be cultivated to have a singular trunk or multiple. It has salmon to brown colored exfoliating bark that reveals creamy white bark underneath. It is more heat resistant than other birches. Its leaves are leathery and green, turning yellow in the fall. It can become very tall, so plan enough space for it to grow in.

Leaf

Alternate, simple, and doubly serrated. Leathery green in the summer, turning yellow in the fall.

Female, upright, green color. Catkin.

Male, pendulous, brown. Catkin.

Advantages

Adapts to many different soil types, more heat resistant than other birches.

Disadvantages

Does best in moist and well-drained soils. Avoid standing water.
