This crabapple produces edible fruit that is great for making jelly or cider. The fruit has a tart flavor and is a bright red to purple color. The flowers are white with a pink center. This tree can become large at about 30 by 30 and is fairly resistant to diseases.

Leaf

Green, alternate, serrate, elliptical, deciduous, 2-4”.

Fruit

Bright red, purple, 1 ¼”, edible, ripen in July.

Flower

Pink center with white
petals, fragrant, flowering well inalternate years.

Advantages

Adapts to many different soil types, fruit can be used to make jelly or cider, resistant but susceptible to disease.

Disadvantages

Messy fruit in August.
