Leaf

Awl-shaped needles that are very prickly, foliage is yellow with blue-green tips.

Fruit

Dioecious; female cones are waxy and a silvery-blue color. Ripens in 2 years.

Flower

Male cones are yellow-brown to orange-brown. They shed pollen March through April.

Advantages

A small plant, eye-catching colors, adapts well to various soils and climates, hardy, and drought tolerant.

Disadvantages

Susceptible to phomposis, intolerant of overly wet soils.
