Common Pearlbush

The common pearlbush is spectacular when it is in bloom, being completely covered in white flowers. The blooms have 5 petals and are not fragrant. Fruit is produced later in the season, but is not showy. It is drought tolerant and quite a tough bush. It is adaptable to many conditions.

Leaf

Alternate, and simple. Medium green in color. 1-3" long.

Fruit

Funnel shaped pods, ranging from green to yellow to brown.

Flower

Has male and female parts. White with 5 petals. Non-fragrant, blooms April to May.

Advantages

Adapts to many different soil types and environmental conditions. Drought and heat tolerant. pH adaptable.

Disadvantages

Does not provide much interest after blooms fade.
