This upright, narrow variety adapts to various temperatures and soils, including drought. The yellow flowers bloom in the summer, and the fruit provides a second burst of color in the late summer. In the Fall the leaves turn yellow to golden orange.

Fruit

Fruit is 2” long in a
greenish papery seed
capsule that looks like
Chinese lanterns.

Small yellow flower
(1/2” wide) that
groups in a panicle.

Advantages

Adapts well to various

soils, also does well in
dry climates and
drought.

Disadvantages

Susceptible to Spring freezes, seeds are messy and can spread.
