Atlas Cedars originated in the Atlas mountains and are well-suited for the intermountain climate. This variety grows taller and thinner than species and is just as drought tolerant once established. Its needles grow in clumps and are bluish green in color.

Leaf

Square needles that grow in clumps, bluish green in color.

Fruit

Monecious; male cones sheds clouds of pollen, female cones are green/purple and mature to brown.

Flower

Cones, short, persistent, upright, require 2 years to mature.

Advantages

Tolerant of acidic and alkaline soils, clay soils, drought tolerant, cold hardy.

Disadvantages

Occasional winter damage to outer needles.
