This variety of chokecherry is unique in that its foliage initially emerges green but quickly turns a deep purple color.  It has showy white fragrant flowers and edible fruit that can be harvested and used in baking or preservatives. Chokecherries prefers full sun, are very hardy, and can be grown in almost any soil type. However, it is known for sending up suckers around the trunk
