Bosnian Pine

This type of pine is noted for its showy purple cones. It does best in full sun, but needs regular watering. It is adapted to limestone soils such as those found in the countries surrounding the Adriatic Sea. It does best in full sun and limestone soils, but can adapt to other conditions.

Leaf

Needles, green, bunches of 2, 2.5" long, stiff. Tufts grow at the end of the branches.

Fruit

Cone, purple when young, maturing to a yellow color. 1-3" long.

Flower

Non-flowering.

Advantages

Adapted best to limestone soils, does best in full sun.

Disadvantages

Susceptible to wind damage and some pests and diseases. Prefers cool summers.
