4-H Classic

The 4-H Classic will be a combination of workshops and contests for both adults and intermediate and senior age youth. There will be STEM, Public Speaking and FCS related workshops and contests. This is a great way to learn about the different club projects in these areas and learn about 4-H contests.

Healthy Habits TRY Training

TRY stands for Teens Reaching Youth. Teens come together from across Utah to learn leadership skills and strategies to be a good teacher. In addition, they will receive a Healthy Habits related curriculum and receive hands-on interactive lessons about that curriculum. Teens then return home to their own counties and teach what they have learned to younger youth and peers.

4-H Cooking Challenge

A team of two members or an individual contestant will prepare and complete a dish highlighting the challenge ingredient. Dish must be completed and presented to the judges within a 40-minute timeframe. Contestants must prepare one complete plates of the dish for the judges. Contestants can prepare an appetizer, main course or a dessert. Contestants will have up to 3 minutes to:

  • describe the dish presented
  • tell how they highlighted the challenge ingredient
  • share some facts/knowledge about the challenge ingredient.

Consumer Decision Making

Consumer Decision Making is a competitive event that teaches youth financial management, how to be a smart consumer, and decision-making skills.

Students may compete in teams of three to four youth or individually. During this event, each participant judges a group of 4 similar ranks them best to worst for the given situation. Afterwards, students verbally present the reasons behind their ranking to a judge.

At National Competition, teams also compete in a group think activity to develop a solution to a given problem.

Favorite Foods

Contestants will be judged on their selection, knowledge and presentation of a favorite food.  Be prepared to discuss your favorite food – why it’s your favorite, where you got the recipe, any special techniques used while preparing it, and anything you’d like to share about your favorite food. Come prepared to display your favorite food which was prepared beforehand and provide samples to the judges to taste. Enter as a team of 2 or individual.

Fashion Revue

Description: Fashion Revue is a combination of an oral presentation, modeling of the garment and response to questions from the judges. The contest will be broken into 2 parts: personal interview and fashion revue modeling.
During the interview, the contestants will be judged on
  • 1-2 minute oral presentation skills,
  • content of their oral presentation
  • appearance of outfit/garment
  • response to questions from the judges.
Youth can compete in 2 different divisions and will be judged separately. Those divisions are:
  • Constructed - 50% of the score will be on sewing contraction and 50% will be on modeling and interviews (if virtual, 100% will be on modeling and interview).
  • Purchased/modified - 100% will be on modeling and interviews

FCS Bowl

FCS Bowl is a knowledge bowl team competition that tests your knowledge of all aspects of Family Consumer Science. This is a super fun contest.

FCS Skillathon

Participants give a 10 to 15 minute presentation.  Subject matter must pertain to a home economics or family consumer science topic.  We are having two separate divisions in FCS Presentations - Sewing and all other Family Consumer Science topics. Remember there are no cooking facilities provided for this contest!
