Utah County STEM Bee & Virtual STEM Fair



Utah County 4-H is pleased to present two new opportunities, powered by the generosity of of the Facebook Community Action Grant and in partnership with the Wasatch Home Educators Network, for youth to demonstrate their knowledge and passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. 




Utah County 4-H Virtual STEM Fair

  • **DEADLINE EXTENDED** Accepting submissions through February 28, 2022.
  • Youth ages 5-18
  • Winners & Prizes Announced March 1, 2022

Youth complete an age/grade appropriate science experiment or develop an innovation using the appropriate scientific or design methods. Additionally,  youth may demonstrate a scientific principle and explain how/why the principle works.

Age/Grade Categories:

  • Ages 5-7/Grades K-2
  • Ages 8-10/Grades 3-5
  • Ages 11-13/Grades 6-8
  • Ages 14-18/Grades 9-12
*Homeschool youth will compete in their age category.  Age is determined by the youth's age on September 1, 2021.

4-H membership Requirement:

You do NOT need to be a 4-H member to participate.  The Utah County 4-H Virtual STEM Fair is open to all Utah County residents between the ages of 5 -18.  Youth from public, private, and homeschool settings are welcome and encouraged to participate.

The Utah County 4-H STEM Bee is an opportunity for youth to demonstrate their intellectual knowledge in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.  The STEM Bee consists of two parts.  The first part is an online qualification assessment completed by youth at school or home based upon their educational setting.

To participate youth must complete the Registration Link (coming soon). 

Age/Grade Categories

  • Grades 3-5/Ages 8-10
  • Grades 6-8/Ages 11-14

Qualification Knowledge Test

The qualification knowledge is timed and consists of questions covering various Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics topics.

**DEADLINE EXTENDED** 

The Knowledge Test is open from February 1 – February 28, 2022.  Youth will have 1 hour to complete the knowledge test, without assistance.  

Contestants will be notified of their qualification placing March 1, 2022.

Bee Competition

The Bee Competition is an in-person event hosted at the Utah County Extension & 4-H offices in Orem, Utah on March 12, 2022.  The top 15 individual scores from the qualification knowledge test will receive an invitation to participate in the Bee Competition.

The Bee Competition will consists of a semi-final and final round, each round consisting of three sets of question-answer competition.  The top 5 scores of the semi-final will move into the final round for their grade/age category where the question-answer competition will be repeated.

Awards

Awards for both age/grade categories are as follows. 

  • First Place – prize valued up to $100
  • Second Place – prize valued up to $75
  • Third Place – prize valued up to $50
