Emergency Preparedness
Natural Disaster Preparedness
When unexpected events like earthquakes, floods or wildfires strike, being prepared can make a significant difference. Prepare for disasters by establishing an emergency plan and a communication plan. Monitor for emergency alerts. Be ready to evacuate or shelter in place if instructed. Create emergency kits with at least three days' worth of food and water per household member. Practice emergency drills before disasters strike. Consider home improvements and check insurance coverage for disaster protection. Follow official emergency instructions before, during and after disasters. After a disaster, be aware of continuing hazards, and follow safety guidelines during cleanup. Follow the links below for more information about preparing for natural disaster emergencies.
