Tornado Preparedness

Although rare in Utah, tornadoes can happen anytime and anywhere. Make sure emergency alerts are enabled on your smart phone. Apps, the internet, radio, and TV are other ways to stay up to date with emergency information. Be prepared to stay in place for a period of time during and after a storm. Have an emergency kit and emergency and communication plans. Identify a safe location to wait out storm ahead of time like a basement or interior room with no windows. Practice tornado drills before one hits. In a tornado, cover your head and neck with your arms. Put furniture and blankets on top of you for further protection. Do not try to outrun tornadoes in a vehicle. Continue to pay attention to and follow emergency alerts after a tornado hits. If emergency care is needed, stay sheltered in place, contact your medical provider for further instructions. Follow safety guidelines when cleaning up after a storm.
