2024 Garden Pest Academy

Do you want to become an expert at identifying problems in your home garden next season? Join us for the Garden Pest Academy in January taught by our USU Extension IPM team. This 3-part class series will train participants on vegetable insect and plant disease identification along with concepts of integrated pest management. These skills will allow you to grow healthier, more vibrant plants while minimizing the need for pesticides. The classes will include interactive components such as review activities, handouts, and insect display cases.

SCHEDULE:

  • 11-Jan: Applying Integrated Pest Management. Learn about cultural, mechanical, and biological pest management practices and sustainable vegetable gardening.
  • 18-Jan: Disease Diagnosis and Management. Learn about vegetable diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, or viruses and both conventional and organic options to effectively manage them.
  • 25-Jan: Insect Identification and Management. Learn about various insect pests that affect vegetables and both conventional and organic options to effectively manage them.

Individuals have the option to participate in person or via a Zoom link that will be distributed upon registration.
