Biography

Scott M. Smid is a licensed Clinical Social Worker/Program Services Director. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Scott has worked in the helping profession(s) for nearly 28 years, as a therapist, Program Manager/Coordinator, Clinical Director and Services Manager/Director working with a broad range of populations in the fields of Mental/Behavioral Health, Substance Use Disorder/Recovery Treatment (Adolescents and Adults), and Domestic Violence Treatment for Victims, Perpetrators, and child witnesses. Scott has served on multiple community committees and has been active as a Field Instructor, serving on the UofU Field Practicum Placement Committee and being awarded Field Instructor of the Year 2017-2018.

Scott comes to Sacred Circle Healthcare after serving as Manager of Outpatient Recovery Services at the University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute (UNI) for 12 years. While at UNI, Scott further developed treatment programming and was a participant in the development and execution of groundbreaking service(s) and treatment for individuals with Opioid Use Disorders. Scott had been a part of groundbreaking training and support to local police departments, new police recruits, and first responders, in providing training and education on substance use disorders, substances of abuse (identification), and substance using behaviors/intoxication likely to be experienced in the field. Scott trained/educated hundreds of local officers through this programming.

As Director of Recovery Programming at Sacred Circle Healthcare, Scott is charged with developing a Service Program/Team at Sacred Circle’s Clinic at Pamela’s Place in partnership with the Housing Authority of Salt Lake City. Scott is additionally responsible for the development and creation of a Substance Use Recovery Clinic/Services/ Substance Use Prevention. In this Recovery Center, the Sacred Circle Team will provide Medication for Addiction Treatment (Medication Assisted Treatment), Outpatient Substance Use Disorder Treatment, Intensive Outpatient Treatment, with foundational, Native-Based, Culturally specific programming.

Scott is a fanatical sports person. His pastimes include cheering for his beloved Badgers (Wisconsin), Utes (Utah), and the Denver Broncos. He also loves spending time with his wonderful family, kids, and grandkids.
