Roger Clark, ACMHC

Biography

Roger Clark has worked for the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah since 2015, when he started as an intern in the Behavioral Health field. He is presently the Prevention Coordinator for the Tribe and oversees the Native Youth Program, providing substance abuse and suicide prevention. Roger has facilitated substance abuse groups and prevention groups, as well as providing individual mental health and substance abuse  counseling. Roger received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Utah University in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Alamosa University in Colorado. He is a Board Certified Counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors and is a licensed ACMHC.

Roger has Paiute Ancestry and is a long-time resident of Cedar City, where he grew up and finished high school. Roger and his wife Leslie have 5 children and 6 grandchildren.

The Native Youth Program at the Tribe is primarily funded through the Indian Health Services Substance Abuse Suicide Prevention Initiative. The program is based on the philosophy that Culture is Prevention thus, a focus on Tribal and Native American culture is part of all Native Youth activities. The Tribe provides ongoing cultural activities including Native American Flute Circle, Open Pow Wow and Hand Drum Circles, Sweat Lodge ceremony, and Red Road to Sobriety meetings. Annual cultural events at the Tribe include the Spirit Run, the Annual Restoration Gathering Pow Wow, Tribal Veterans Honor Dinner, and Honoring our Native American Women event. FourPoints Health (the Tribe’s health department) operates five community health centers located throughout Southwest Utah that are open to everyone and provide quality medical, behavioral health, and dental services. As taught by our Paiute ancestors, we believe in treating the whole person which includes the body, mind, emotions, and spirit.
