Lissa Yellowbird-Chase

Biography

From alcohol to cocaine to meth, Lissa needed them all simply to function at one point in her life. Due to her substance use disorder, her kids were also in and out of foster care. In 2006, Lissa hit rock bottom when she was arrested for possession with intent to distribute and sentenced to 10 years in state prison. She served just under three and subsequently began changing her life. By 2012, Lissa was sober, happy, and working hard to provide for her family. That’s when she learned of the offenses against her community, became an advocate, and established Sahnish Scouts of North Dakota to battle the same.

Lissa’s presentation will focus on her recovery and how that lead to her involvement in Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and children.
