She serves as USU Extension Health and Wellness faculty with the Health Extension: Advocacy, Research, and Teaching (HEART) Initiative, which addresses the opioid epidemic and other public health issues through education, collaboration, stigma and harm reduction, and resilience development. Gabi’s work focuses on the role healthy eating, physical activity, resiliency skills, and other healthy behaviors play in decreasing injury and chronic pain, and how developing and utilizing those skills can be essential in substance use recovery.

Gabriela’s presentation is a discussion regarding the holistic health needs of tribal and rural communities in the Uintah Basin. Members of the Unified Health Coalition and other professionals are invited to discuss existing holistic health services and needs of tribal and rural communities. The information gathered will be used to create a resource to inform stakeholders and guide future educational and service efforts around holistic health.
