Home Food Preservation Series 2026
Join us to learn how to preserve your food through canning and dehydrating! Each class is $6/person and will be held at the USU Extension - Cache County office.
February 25 - Canning Beef (5:30-7:00 p.m.)
At this class, we will learn how to select, prepare, and can beef through hot packing and raw packing in a pressure canner.
March 25 - Canning Soup (5:30-7:00 p.m.)
Canning soup at home is an excellent way to preserve your vegetables. At this class, we will learn how to pressure can new soup recipes.
April 1 - Canning Chicken (5:30-7:00 p.m.)
At this class, we will learn how to select, prepare, and can chicken through hot packing and raw packing in a pressure canner.
April 29 - Canning Veggies (5:30-7:00 p.m.)
Vegetables are low-acid foods that can be preserved through pressure canning at home. Learn how to keep your garden harvest preserved throughout the year.
May 20 - Dehydrating Jerky (5:30-7:00 p.m.)
Have you ever wondered how to make homemade jerky? At this class, we will learn how to make homemade jerky and the basic principles to follow in order to make it safely. This is a great holiday gift!
May 27 - Dehydrating Fruit Leather (5:30-7:00 p.m.)
Are you wanting to learn a new way to preserve your fruit besides canning it, freezing it, or making it into jam? At this class we will learn the basics of dehydrating fruit into fruit leather.
Nurturing New Beginnings: USU Extension Pregnancy and Parenting Class
Class dates: March 2, 9, 23, 30
Class time: 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Class location: Cache County Extension Office (179 N Main Street #111 Logan, UT)
Class price: $10, this includes one support person to come with you
Are you pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant? Then this class is for you! You could be a first-time mom or a mom with kids. This class will teach what you can do to have a healthy pregnancy and learn parenting tips for after the baby is born. You are welcome to bring a support person for free with you to each class. If you bring a support person, they do not need to pay the class registration fee. There will be a pregnancy gift for participants at the end of the class series. We hope you can join us for the USU Extension Nurturing New Beginnings Class!
This is a 4-week class series. New topics are covered at each class, so you’ll want to attend all four classes. Topics covered in the classes include:

Nutrition and physical activity during pregnancy, taught by a registered dietitian

Breastfeeding tips and tricks for feeding your baby after birth, taught by a lactation consultant

Safe sleep tips for the baby and general parenting tips

Infant development and milestones, car seat safety, and WIC

Come learn how to manage your diabetes symptoms and discover new cooking techniques to create tasty, diabetes-friendly meals! Each individual with diabetes who is registering for the class is encouraged to bring a support person for with them. This could be a significant other, family member, or friend. The individual must be 18 years or older. If you bring a support person, they do not need to register or pay.
Participants will also receive a meal during class, a diabetes cookbook, and a chance to win door prizes!
Virtual Diabetes Cook Along Series
Diabetes Plate Method - April 14th at 11:00am
Together we will make a delicious and nutritious Italian chicken foil dinner.
Carbohydrates - April 21st at 11:00am
Load up on flavor as we make a beef stroganoff and steamed broccoli.
Protein & Glucose Control - April 28th at 11:00am
Explore new recipes with our corn, quinoa, and black bean salad.
Fiber, Healthy Fats, and Snacks - May 5th at 11:00am
We will make yummy leftover breakfast tacos.
Knowing why you need to change your diet to manage diabetes symptoms is one thing, actually making those changes can be a struggle. Join us from the comfort of your own kitchen as we make delicious and diabetes appropriate meals together. Each week in this series we will discuss specific topics about diabetes to help you better manage your symptoms.
We will also make a recipe during each class to help you learn how to incorporate the principles we are teaching in class into your the meals you choose to eat. Each class will feature an easy to prepare recipe that is appropriate for someone with diabetes to eat. We will email you the recipe and shopping list one week before the class so that you can be prepared to cook along with us!
Pressure Canning Lid Testing Days
Our pressure canning testing days are Monday through Friday of each week. Mondays are free, Tuesday-Fridays there will be a $5.00 charge (cash or card accepted). No appointment is necessary. Items for rent are $2.00 per weekday for each.
