Home Food Preservation Series 2026

Join us to learn how to preserve your food through canning and dehydrating! Each class is $6/person and will be held at the USU Extension - Cache County office.

February 25 - Canning Beef (5:30-7:00 p.m.)

At this class, we will learn how to select, prepare, and can beef through hot packing and raw packing in a pressure canner.

March 25 - Canning Soup (5:30-7:00 p.m.)

Canning soup at home is an excellent way to preserve your vegetables. At this class, we will learn how to pressure can new soup recipes.

April 1 - Canning Chicken (5:30-7:00 p.m.)

At this class, we will learn how to select, prepare, and can chicken through hot packing and raw packing in a pressure canner.

April 29 - Canning Veggies (5:30-7:00 p.m.)

Vegetables are low-acid foods that can be preserved through pressure canning at home. Learn how to keep your garden harvest preserved throughout the year.

May 20 - Dehydrating Jerky (5:30-7:00 p.m.)

Have you ever wondered how to make homemade jerky? At this class, we will learn how to make homemade jerky and the basic principles to follow in order to make it safely. This is a great holiday gift!

May 27 - Dehydrating Fruit Leather (5:30-7:00 p.m.)

Are you wanting to learn a new way to preserve your fruit besides canning it, freezing it, or making it into jam? At this class we will learn the basics of dehydrating fruit into fruit leather.

Virtual Diabetes Cook Along Series

Diabetes Plate Method - April 14th at 11:00am
Together we will make a delicious and nutritious Italian chicken foil dinner.

Carbohydrates - April 21st at 11:00am
Load up on flavor as we make a beef stroganoff and steamed broccoli.

Protein & Glucose Control - April 28th at 11:00am
Explore new recipes with our corn, quinoa, and black bean salad.

Fiber, Healthy Fats, and Snacks - May 5th at 11:00am
We will make yummy leftover breakfast tacos.

Knowing why you need to change your diet to manage diabetes symptoms is one thing, actually making those changes can be a struggle. Join us from the comfort of your own kitchen as we make delicious and diabetes appropriate meals together. Each week in this series we will discuss specific topics about diabetes to help you better manage your symptoms.

We will also make a recipe during each class to help you learn how to incorporate the principles we are teaching in class into your the meals you choose to eat.  Each class will feature an easy to prepare recipe that is appropriate for someone with diabetes to eat.  We will email you the recipe and shopping list one week before the class so that you can be prepared to cook along with us!

Preserve the Harvest 2026

Are you interested in preserving your garden harvest? Whether beginner or experienced, this Zoom webinar series is for you!
‌This class series will teach the basics of preserving food safely. It will cover why following the tested and reliable recipes when preserving is important and where to go for safe, updated scientifically tested procedures. This class series will cover the basics of canning and all canners will learn tips to build or sharpen their food preservation skills! Each class will include a lecture and a demo of one recipe. Each class is $6.

April 22: Water Bath Canning - Tomatoes and Salsa (6:30-7:30 pm - Zoom)

Join us for an introduction into water bath canning as we discuss canning tomatoes and salsa. Tomatoes are wonderfully versatile veggies that require proper acidifying for food safety. Learn how to keep your jars of tomatoes safe. Also learn the ins and outs of safe home-canned salsa recipes.

April 29: Pressure Canning – Meats and Veggies (6:30-7:30 pm - Zoom)
Join us for an introduction into pressure canning food safely. This class will cover how to can meat and vegetables by using a pressure canner. While only one food will be demonstrated, the process of using pressure canner that will be taught can be applied to all low-acid foods that need to be pressure canned.

May 6: Freeze Drying (6:30-7:30 pm - Zoom)
Join us for an Introduction to Home Freeze Dryers and how to use them for a variety of foods. Cost vs. Savings of purchasing your own freeze dryer will also be discussed.

May 20: Pickling and Fermenting (6:30-7:30 pm - Zoom)
Join us as we explore the basics of pickling and fermenting food. As this topic becomes more and more popular, you want to ensure you are pickling and fermenting food in a safe way. This class will explore tips and resources you can use to create a safe pickled or fermented product.

Pressure Canning Lid Testing Days

Our pressure canning testing days are Monday through Friday of each week. Mondays are free, Tuesday-Fridays there will be a $5.00 charge (cash or card accepted). No appointment is necessary. We have cooking appliances available for renting!

Items for rent are $2.00 per weekday for each.
