Wildfire

Helping Utah prepare for a future of living with fire

Wildfires are part of Utah's ecosystem.

But how do we prepare for them? Wildfires are becoming increasingly dangerous and devastating, and their impacts on our daily lives are no longer a distant threat for Utah residents; they are an escalating reality, especially for those with homes in the wildland-urban interface – the zone where homes and communities meet undeveloped land.

As the state’s land-grant university, Utah State University strives to conduct research and create educational resources to inform and encourage community and private property owner wildfire preparedness and action.

Utah's Future with Fire.

Fire has always been part of Utah's landscapes, and it isn't going away. Preparing means learning to live alongside it: understanding the risk where you live, making choices that give your home and neighborhood a better chance, and connecting with neighbors, local leaders, and agencies before smoke is on the horizon. Utah State University brings research, practical tools, and community education to that work, so residents, landowners, and decision-makers can take steps now that matter later.
