About Utah Nature Explorers

Utah Nature Explorers (UNE) is a Utah State University Extension program aimed at helping educators share Utah's natural world with their students. Many of our lesson plans were developed by educators who have certified as Utah Master Naturalists in our professional development program, Utah Master Naturalist. These lesson plans continue to be the backbone of UNE, but we also promote wonderful lesson plans developed by other schools and organizations! If you have educational materials or lesson plans that you would like to promote through UNE, please contact us.

In addition to our nature-based lesson plans, we provide field equipment and books that may be borrowed at no cost. We believe educators can more successfully integrate Utah's natural world into their instruction with access to these resources.

Welcome to Utah Nature Explorers!

Lesson Plans

Lesson plan topics are organized by Utah biomes: watersheds, deserts, mountains, and general nature. The lessons within each biome are further categorized by ecology (living sciences), physical science (non-living sciences), and humanities (arts & literature). Within each category, lesson plans are ordered K-12, with the applicable grade level listed in parentheses beside it.
