I remember a quote from Pope John Paul the Second where he said, "Love is a constant challenge thrown to us by God." And so simmer on that for a little bit. God is throwing you a challenge of love, that love isn't merely a feeling. They're a feeling sometimes, but it's an act of the will that kind of consists of preferring the good of the other to the good of myself. That's what love is. And so talk is cheap. You know, really, really pay attention; how does this person leave me feeling when I spend time with them...am I anxious? Is there a lot of bickering and jealousy and resentment and this and that? Like, really pay attention to what's going on in your core. Does this person bring you a sense of stability and peace and reassurance and being cherished, or instability, fear of being used, or does this personally love me for the right reasons? Why do they treat me this way? How can I change them? Really pay attention and trust your gut. In the meantime, just keep your standards high as heaven.

I really was struck by the culture of just tenderness as well as self-mastery.

Having an outward mindset. It's not about me, right? Pornography is about me. It's this self-first. But it's this outward mindset of putting another person, at least taking into account having compassion and thinking seeing the world from their perspective is critical through all this.
