After more than a decade of building hoop houses and greenhouse kits, Kevin Roberts of Roberts Hoop Houses knew one thing needed to change: his website needed to show customers they could actually buy from him.
“I felt like people were not seeing on our website that they were able to purchase online and that we were a legitimate business,” Roberts said. “More of like a blog at that point. And so I wanted to show that we are a legitimate business. You can purchase our products right here online.”
Through the E-Commerce Accelerator, Roberts worked to redesign the site, improve its layout, and better understand how to structure an online storefront. The program provided technical guidance and support as he transitioned from an informational website to a functioning e-commerce platform.
Based in South Utah County, Roberts Hoop Houses started when Roberts built a greenhouse for his own family using a grant. Neighbors began asking how he did it. Soon he was helping others install their own structures. Over time, the business shifted from hands-on installs to producing and selling hoop house kits. Today, the company focuses primarily on kits, with a long-term goal of increasing production and building something that can support more full-time employees.
The redesigned website now includes organized product listings, clearer accessory options, and a working checkout system. While larger greenhouse kits are still often ordered by phone, customers can now directly purchase smaller parts and accessories online.
Six months after launch, the impact is measurable. “Our website has led to a boost in requests for hoop house quotes from across the country,” Roberts said. “This has been huge for improving our overall revenue, on top of the sales we were already making. We’ve sold upwards of $21,000 through our new website.”

For Roberts, the impact was both practical and educational. Website design and e-commerce strategy were not his area of expertise.
“I am an engineer. I’m not in the business of designing websites,” he said. “Getting the support and professional skill set to put that together and make it look nice was a big help.”
He added that the team’s willingness to research questions and provide guidance beyond the basics made a difference, especially in understanding how e-commerce works and how customers interact with online stores.
Roberts plans to continue building online sales while exploring additional marketing efforts, including digital advertising and social media content.
For a business that began with one greenhouse built for a family, the goal now is growth without losing the hands-on service that built its reputation.
