Service Industry Naloxone Trainings

Made possible by a grant through Utah State University, USU Extension is providing onsite overdose prevention training to help employees identify the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose and learn how to use Narcan, which is a nasal spray used to reverse opioid overdoses and save lives. Employees are sometimes the first to witness an overdose event and respond to it before EMS arrives, so having the knowledge, skills, confidence, and resources to respond successfully can help save someone's life.

Who is this training for?

• Service industry employees who work at places like bars, restaurants, hotels, motels, gas stations, and others.
• Industries that can have higher rates of injuries, including construction, mining, and trucking.
• College students including those who are involved with student organizations (fraternities, sororities, student government, housing, etc.).

Businesses and organizations that register for the training will receive an emergency overdose response kit to keep on-site that includes Narcan, a CPR mask, gloves, and key items needed to respond to an overdose. Attendees who attend the training will receive a Narcan kit and wallet card with self-care information.

Each training will last approximately 40 minutes and can be scheduled on-site during shift changes, existing training times, or other convenient times. Trainings will be provided through the end of 2024.

We are focusing efforts in eight counties: Cache, Carbon, Duchesne, Emery, Salt Lake, Uintah, Utah, and Washington. However, trainings can be held in other counties, so please contact us.
