DriveUtah!
Horse driving has been around just about as long as the horse has been domesticated. DriveUtah! offers participants who do not wish to be or cannot be mounted on a horse the rewards of interaction and control of a horse while driving from a carriage or wagon seat. Using a horse and carriage gives participants an alternative or an addition to riding, opening up the world of horses to those who may be unable to ride due to physical limitations, balance considerations, or other individual factors.
DriveUtah! is currently offered to veterans, active-duty military, and family members of service men and women. In the summer, once-weekly trail driving is available. During the school year (September-April), there are limited spots available for veterans and active-duty military to learn how to drive horses themselves. Classes include basic horsemanship instruction, harnessing, hitching, and driving inside and outside the arena.
Those interested in participating in our summer trail drives or school-year driving courses should reach out directly to Dr. Karl Hoopes at karl.hoopes.@usu.edu.
