Program: Lake Champlain Sea Grant

Program: The (UVM) New Farmer Project

Description: The New Farmer Project, an initiative of the UVM Extension, brings together information and resources from Extension and the broader Vermont agriculture community to assist new farmers in creating successful agricultural businesses. By collaborating among departments within Extension and partners in the non-profit and government organizations serving farmers, we put our efforts into gathering the information most applicable to new farmers. We work with partner organizations to avoid duplication of efforts, and where possible to identify and fill gaps.

Program: Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program

Description: Funded primarily through the USDA Forest Service, the Vermont Urban and Community Forestry Program is designed to help communities plan, plant, and care for their community trees. Since its inception in 1991, VT UCF has provided technical and financial assistance to over 150 Vermont communities and more than $1,000,000 in competitive grants have been awarded to Vermont municipalities and volunteer organizations. The Program’s staff is supported by a twenty member council, numerous partners, and seasonal interns.

Program: Teens Reaching Youth (TRY) for the Environment

Description: TRY stands for Teens Reaching Youth and is an environmental leadership opportunity for youth in grades 7-12. It is a teen-led environmental education program with an embedded service learning component designed to teach environmental literacy and responsibility to younger youth. TRY for the Environment includes four program areas—renewable energy, waste solutions, food systems and forests & trees—to connect young people to real-world environmental problems in which they can be key change agents helping to create real-world solutions.

Program: The Women’s Agricultural Network (WAgN)

Description: Established in 1995, the Women’s Agricultural Network (WAgN) provides education and technical assistance established, beginning and aspiring farmers. WAgN’s goal is to increase the number of women owning and operating profitable farms and ag-related businesses. From developing and assessing a business idea through the advanced planning and implementation phases, WAgN offers a program to support and encourage farm entrepreneurs at any level.
