Junior Livestock Rules

Eligibility

  1. Exhibitors must be in or have completed the 3rd grade and be no less than 8 years old by
the registration deadline for the species they plan to show. Exhibitors can only show through
the same year as their high school graduation for a maximum of 10 years.
  2. In order for market animals to be eligible for entry into the Summit County Jr. Livestock Show & Sale, they must have been tagged by the ownership deadline dates by an official member of the Jr. Livestock committee. Each exhibitor will fill out a Registration/Tag form at their species weigh-in. If you miss the tagging date for your species, you will NOT be able to show at the Summit County Jr. Livestock Show & Sale. No registration forms will be accepted after tagging dates. Exhibitors will be charged $1.00 per tag plus $30.00 per exhibitor entry fee. Families with 10 animals or more may be able to have animals tagged at your location depending on the time schedule of those doing the tagging. These arrangements must be made and completed BEFORE the species tagging dates. Scheduling for tagging WILL NOT be done after the final species tagging dates. Contact your species chairperson with questions.
  3. All Jr. Market Division entries are open to currently enrolled Summit County FFA and 4-H members that permanently reside in Summit County only (this includes school district boundaries) and that have registered on ZSUITE (https://extension.usu.edu/utah4h/zsuite) prior to/or at tagging.
  4. Exhibitors must declare residency before tagging of species. Exhibitors are not allowed to show or sell any market animal at any other County Fair (State & Region shows are Exempt) outside of Summit County during the current year. Any exhibitor found in violation of this rule will be deemed ineligible to enter the Summit County Jr. Livestock Show and Sale. All monies above the floor price from the sale of an ineligible animal will be forfeited.
  5. All animals that are being raised to show in the Summit County Jr. Livestock Show & Sale must be fed and cared for by the exhibitor and must be housed within the boundaries of Summit County (this includes all Summit County school districts boundaries) during the county fair ownership requirement period. All animals to be entered into the county fair must be owned by the exhibitor as follows:

These requirements may be met by attending livestock clinics, shows, jackpots, and other educational livestock events presented throughout the current show season up until the county fair. One of these requirements may also be filled by exhibitor’s showing at the previous year’s Utah State Fair.
  10. An up-to-date and complete 4-H portfolio/SAE record book is required to be turned in after the fair to the 4-H office or FFA advisor before checks will be released.
