Welcome to the 2026/2027 4-H Year. We are so happy you are here! First of all, we would like to introduce you to our new iSEE Program Coordinator Leah Hamblin. She recently graduated with a degree in Anthropology from Southern Utah University and she is so excited to contribute to the Salt Lake County community. She is passionate about experiential education and doing any new crafty project that she can get her hands on. She looks forward to learning and sharing her enthusiasm with everyone! We are excited to have her join the Salt Lake County 4-H Team! We are excited about this years activities, clubs and events. These month-at-a-glance emails will let you know everything that will be happening with Salt Lake County 4-H, so stay tuned as each month will have opportunities for 4-H youth to grow and expand in their learning and leadership skills. Please take the time to re-enroll in 4-H. You can enroll at 4h.zsuite.org. Whether you are a 4-H youth or a volunteer, you need to re-enroll to be on the e-mail list for the new year. If you have enrolled for the new year but have not paid, you can do so on September 1st. Volunteer enrollment is free. You will also be able to register for Salt Lake Stitchers on September 1st. Volunteers, please do your trainings! You can see the trainings you will need to do by going to your personal Z-suite profile and clicking on Clover Academy on the menu on the left. There are two trainings: 4-H Volunteer Training, and Protection of Minors training. Those will need to be completed at your earliest convenience. Your enrollment will not be completed until those trainings are finished. Let's get this new year rolling! Here is what is happening in September: Cloverbud Crew Date: Tuesday, September 1 (Every first Tuesday of each month) Time: 4:00-5:00 pm Location: 4-H Ranch House Details: Cloverbud Crew is a club for youth in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. We introduce 4-H by teaching fun, hands-on, interactive activities to spark interest in 4-H. If you are interested in joining Cloverbud Crew, just add it to your personal ZSuite profile and you will receive more information and email updates. Questions? Email: pamela.vanwagoner@usu.edu Junior Master Gardeners and Growing Leaders Date: Thursdays, September 3 and 24 (Every 1st and 4th Thursday of each month except November and December where it will be only the first Thursday) Time: 6-7pm (if you are interested in a leadership role, you can join Growing Leaders. We meet at 5:30pm) Location: 4-H Clubhouse Details: Growing Leaders and Junior Master Gardeners has become a year round club. We will meet twice a month except in November and December where we will only meet once. There is so much to learn we simply can't waste any time! We will learn about everything Garden! We will have hands on, real life learning about planting, harvesting, and preserving a garden and everything in-between, like: pest control, soil health, pollination, and cooking. Email: megan.ostergar@usu.edu Salt Lake Stitchers Date: Saturday, September 5 (Once a month) Time: 9:30am-12:30pm Location: Wheeler Farm Outdoor Education Center Details: Salt Lake Stitchers is a sewing club for 4-H youth in grades 3-12. We learn all there is to learn about sewing by completing a sewing project at each meeting. We start by cleaning your sewing machine and getting a brief overview of how it all works and then diving in to what this club is all about: SEWING!! We have fun projects planned so don't hesitate to register! If you are unsure of what club to join or you want to get an idea of what the project areas in 4-H are all about, join Curious Clovers by adding it to your personal ZSuite profile. Email: pamela.vanwagoner@usu.edu Beyond Ready for the Future Date: Monday, 14 (Once a month) Time: 6:30-7:30pm Youth and Adults. Dinner will be served. Location: 4-H Ranch House Details: What does it take to be Beyond Ready? Come find out at Salt Lake County 4-H Beyond Ready Night. Youth and adults will learn about two exciting 4-H opportunities: the Portfolio Contest and the World of Work Contest. Participants will receive hands-on training in a fun, interactive way while learning how to build and showcase their skills. Then, we'll split up! Adults will learn how to use the Beyond Ready Framework in their 4-H clubs to help youth develop real-world skills through everyday 4-H experiences. Meanwhile, youth will jump into a fun, hands-on activity where they can put those skills into practice. Whether you're new to Beyond Ready or ready to take your club activities to the next level, this night will give you practical tools, new ideas, and plenty of opportunities to learn by doing. The 2026-2027 Ambassador Term will run from October 2026-August 2027. The SLCo Project Ambassadors will also serve as the SLCo TRY Teams for 2027. The County Portfolio Contest is open on Z-Suite! Youth should submit a cover letter and portfolio highlighting their projects and accomplishments, focusing on the past year, but extending to their entire 4-H experience. Email: pamela.vanwagoner@usu.edu State Events Utah State Fair Date: September 10-20 Location: Utah State Fairgrounds Utah State Fair Cooking Challenge Date: Saturday September 12 Time: Jr. and Intermediate: 2pm Seniors: 4pm Location: Utah State Fairgrounds Details: This registration is for youth participating in the 4-H Cooking Challenge at the Utah State Fair. Each participant will receive two admission tickets for the State Fair. Juniors and Intermediate 4-H Youth will compete at 2:00 pm. Seniors will compete at 4:00 pm (with some seniors competing earlier as needed). Participants will also need to fill out the form for their age group found on the Utah State Fairpark Site: https://www.utahstatefair.com/p/thefair/compete1/food-contests/4h-cooking-contest Competition will follow Utah 4-H Cooking Challenge rules. State Horse Show Date: September 16-19 Location: Bastian Agricultural Center Free to come watchZSuite profile. There is an extra $10/year fee for supplies. It is required that you bring an adult along for every meeting for extra help. ZSuite profile and get important and update emails.
