Virgin River

2006

Description:

Plate 1200X. Virgin River 1930 – 2006 Viewed north-northeast up the virgin River in Zion National Park. Juniper now block the original camera station, so the retake was made from the nearest open area approXimately 200 feet further south. Pinyon and juniper have invaded the floodplain and increased on the distant slope, as has turbinella oak. Cottonwoods have increased in height, but young cottonwoods are absent due to eXcessive browsing by an unnatural concentration of mule deer (Ripple and Beschta 2006).
