Upper Strawberry Creek

1940

2004

Description:

Plate 578X. Upper Strawberry Creek 1940 – 2004 Viewed south-southwest up Strawberry Valley just below Lars Fork. The area was being root-plowed in the 1940 image. It was later reseeded with smooth brome, Kentucky bluegrass, and crested wheatgrass. The road has been realigned. Conifers, primarily spruce, white fir, and ponderosa pine have increased, while aspen has declined. Green rabbitbrush and currant have invaded the seeding. Some aspen stands successfully regenerated when mule deer numbers were low during the 1970’s, but those saplings have since been highlined by increasing numbers of deer and elk (Kay and Bartos 2000).
